A year of night trains
The pilot activity of introducing night trains that ran for a year in Croatia, on the route Zagreb Main Station - Dugo Selo – Zagreb Main Station, has been completed
Night trains on the route Zagreb – Dugo Selo (Ivanić-Grad) – Zagreb were introduced on July 11, 2020, and part of their costs is co-financed from YOUMOBIL project. Trains ran every weekend until July 11, 2021.
The trains were primarily intended for young people from Dugo Selo who need/want to stay in Zagreb until late evening hours on Fridays and Saturdays, or young people who want to return from Ivanić-Grad and Dugo Selo to Zagreb in the weekend morning hours. The main idea was not only to stop the emigration of young people from smaller communities, but to attract them to use public transport as a sustainable form of transport and offer them a service tailored to their needs.
In the 2019/2020 timetable, on Saturdays and Sundays, the train on the route Zagreb - Dugo Selo - Ivanić-Grad departed from Zagreb at 0.30 am, with stops in Dugo Selo at 0.56 am and Ivanić-Grad at 1.17 am. In the opposite direction, the train left Ivanić-Grad at 1.31, from Dugo Selo at 1.53 and arrived in Zagreb at 2.19.
In the timetable 2020/2021, on Saturdays and Sundays, the train on the route Zagreb - Dugo Selo - Ivanić-Grad departed from Zagreb at 0.28 am, with stops in Dugo Selo at 0.53 and Ivanić-Grad at 1.16 am. In the opposite direction, the train from Ivanić-Grad departed at 1.26, from Dugo Selo at 1.50 and arrived in Zagreb GK at 2.16.
Night trains were planned before the Covid-19 pandemic and earthquakes that shook Zagreb in March and December 2020, but were nonetheless very well received, and young people participating in the service satisfaction survey conducted in early July 2021 expressed interest in extending and expanding the service.
