Interview with Philip Kalaydjiev
responsible for strategy, sales and marketing at Oldtimerparts GbR Leipzig
Which tasks and goals do you pursue as a team member of the Oldtimerparts GbR?
The idea for the company came about 2 years ago due to a lack of spare parts. Our current goals are to provide restorers, enthusiasts, private owners of classic cars and workshops with components that are no longer available on the market. We are currently in the process of building and expanding a database with 3D models of spare parts. For this we offer a full service, i.e. the customer sends us the defective part or a template. The component is then digitized and optimized using a wide network of manufacturing partners and manufactured using the best possible and most efficient manufacturing technology. In addition to the original production, the mechanical stability and selection of the right materials is essential. In addition, we often deliver spare parts in unfinished condition, i.e. the customer receives the desired component and can adapt it as he likes. Our vision of the future is to create an online shop to offer the spare parts and 3D models that have already been created and to make them available on demand.
What prospects and special fields of application do you see for additive manufacturing in the future?
There are new surface processing methods and machines that enable the smoothing of rubber parts and are suitable for sealing applications. With increasing wear of the seal, the classic car business offers an important field of application. Even small quantities can be efficiently reproduced using the additive manufacturing process. In addition, with the help of new scanning options, dimensionally stable 3D models with complex structures and geometries can be generated very quickly and iteration loops for testing new components can be reduced. That is why, in addition to prototype construction, I also see application areas in small series and in the mobility area with larger components.
Where do you see opportunities to better support the research field?
We work close to the market and our focus is on digitization as well as service and advice. Oldtimerparts therefore sees great potential in the further development of funding programs related to software development, software products and target group-oriented products.
