LAirA Publications

LAirA defined in a transnational policy learning dialogue the action plans for low carbon mobility of airport passenger and employees, taking into consideration multiple types of interventions (the seven LAirA thematic areas) not only related to public transport (competence of authorities), but also to further integrate other low carbon mobility solutions (e.g. e-mobility, car sharing). Strategies for low carbon integration of airports in Functional Urban Areas are defined in a governance process involving airports, authorities, agencies, transport providers, associations & nodes.

LAirA Project leaflet

Educational Model on Understanding the Integration of Airports’ Landside Access Into the Mobility Systems of Urban Areas – The handbook presents the multimodal and sustainable low carbon mobility integration of seven different airports in the transport systems of their functional urban areas (FUAs).

Transnational Strategy: Guidelines on Low Carbon Emission Landside Accessibility to Airports – The Transnational Strategy is the third and final phase of the LAirA project, focusing on identifying actions for sustainable land transport and access at LAirA airports with the final objective of reducing the CO2 emissions. In order to achieve this goal, the strategy brings together local and regional authorities and airports to build their capacity and facilitate joint planning and implementation of low carbon mobility solutions.

Summary – LAirA Transnational Strategy  – This document is a summary of Landside Airport Accessibility project final document "LAirA Transnational Strategy – Guidelines on Low Carbon Emission Landside Accessibility to Airports". Also, it presents detailed mobility solutions at LAirA airports (Budapest, Milan, Poznan, Modlin, Vienna, Stuttgart and Dubrovnik).

In its efforts to enhance the capacities of local and regional authorities, the LAirA project delivered knowledge through several transnational action plans related to multimodal, smart and low carbon airport access. You can check below the LAirA action plans:

Air-Rail Links Report – This thematic report focuses on action plans from project partners to introduce Air-Rail Links as part of the wider LAirA initiative.

Landside Accessibility to Airports: International Best Practice Report – This study aims to improve landside mobility planning for airports

Wayfinding at Airports Action Plan – This report considers the global best practice examples of wayfinding at airports to set out how signage and other wayfinding mediums are used to guide passengers through airports.

ITS Mobility Action Plan – This action plan focuses on multimodal travel information and reliability in terms of landside accessibility by road and rail.

Transnational Action Plan – Multimodal, Smart and Low Carbon Accessibility in Airport Functional Urban Areas – This report specifically focuses on identifying actions for sustainable surface access at the LAirA airports.

Soft Mobility Action Plan – The scope of this action plan is the functional urban areas restricted to the optimal use of soft mobility modes in the vicinity of airports in order to foster the shift of the modal choice of airport employees to soft mobility.

Shared Mobility Action Plan – The aim of this action plan about Sharing Mobility for LAirA airports is to support decision makers in low carbon mobility planning for airports and their FUAs.

Road-Based Public Transport Action Plan – This action plan includes examples of best practices of road-based airport access to Croatian airports.

Electric Mobility Action Plan – This thematic report focuses on action plans from project partners to introduce landside e-mobility developments as part of the wider LAirA initiative.

LAirA Project has also delivered seven pilot reports on various topics:

Milan Airports Pilot on low carbon mobility management - testing car-pooling platforms and implement public awareness campaigns – The pilot project’s main goal is to develop low-emission solutions that will improve employees’ access to airports.

Milan Airports – Passenger low-carbon mobility with IT tool application – The pilot was part of the wider surface access strategy that SEA is developing, and it includes both activities funded by the LAirA project and activities paid with SEA’s budget.

Ride-Sharing IT Platform Pilot on low carbon mobility management – testing car-pooling platforms and implement public awareness campaigns –  The ride-sharing platform, the awareness raising campaigning and a new company policy for employee ride- sharing are the three main measures/pillars to urge BUD employees.

Pilot on low carbon mobility management – testing car-pooling platforms and implement public awareness campaigns – This report presents the results and project report „Campaign for raising the environmental awareness of employees Dubrovnik Airport“.

Stuttgart Pilot on low carbon employee mobility management – LAirA project partner, Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart GmbH (WRS) is cooperating with Stuttgart Airport (FSG) to organize a low carbon behaviour change campaign for employees of Stuttgart Airport.

Warsaw/Modlin Pilot on low carbon mobility management – testing car-pooling platforms and implement public awareness campaigns – The pilot was preceded by market research started in the middle of 2018. During this phase, four car-pooling platform providers were identified and contacted in order to obtain information about available functionalities, prices, terms and conditions, as well as data protection policies. Based on the information collected, public procurement documentation was prepared.

Poznan Pilot on low carbon mobility management – testing car-pooling platforms and implement public awareness campaigns – The findings of the report will be used to develop the Airport Accessibility Strategy and will be helpful in the development of the Mobility Policy in Poznań. These shall indicate the direction of actions for airport employees to change their mobility behaviour.
