1st Project partners meeting, Kick-off workshop on management plan methodology and 1st Training of WPT3

The meeting was hosted by the Department of Environmental Protection of the City of Stuttgart, partner of AMIIGA. The department has a staff of 160 people and is the largest department dedicated to environmental protection among all German cities.

The meeting started with the kick-off of the technical work package 3 (WPT3) and it was followed by the first training on groundwater management plan methodology. The training assisted the partners in clearly defining their project scope and goals, delineating their FUA, defining target groups to be addressed and establishing and organizing their stakeholders groups. After the training the 1st AMIIGA Steering Committee meeting took place, together with the Project Partner meeting. Partners reported on the work progress, discussed the achieved results, discussed on tools and methodologies and agreed on next actions.
The participants carried out a study visit to Feuerbach, one of the largest industrial complexes in Stuttgart, where important sources of groundwater contamination have been identified. The site has been used for metal industry since 1925, which has caused a severe soil and groundwater contamination with chromate and CHC. Feuerbach is one of the sites where AMIIGA will implement pilot actions. The other pilot actions will be in Jaworzno (Poland), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Novy Bydzov (Czech Republic), Milan and Parma (Italy), Zadar (Croatia).
“AMIIGA is an important project for us, since groundwater quality in Feuerbach is heavily affected by chlorinated hydrocarbon (CHC). We aim to improve the groundwater quality in a reasonable time” says Eng. Hermann J. Kirchholtes from the City of Stuttgart, Department for Environmental Protection.
