International celiac disease day in Maribor


International celiac disease day will be organized in Maribor on May 5th 2018 in organization of  Focus IN CD project, Slovenian celiac society, University medical center Maribor, e-Zavod and ZAMS (Zavod Antona Martina Slomška).

Celiac disease patients will have the opportunity to get comprehensive information at one place in order to improve their knowledge to better cope with the burden of this chronic disease which requires a strict lifelong gluten free diet.

On the agenda are lectures and workshops. After some short introduction speeches, the celiac disease awareness among patients and HCPs will be presented by Jernej Dolinšek, Aja Mijatov will point out the challenges of gluten free diet and will present dietary guidelines for celiac disease.  Jana Ačko and Breda Kojc will give an overview of testing the gluten content of food and licensing system to use the Crossed Grain trademark (trademark license), which gives producers and retailers the right to use the Crossed Grain trademark on their gluten free products in over 30 European countries.

Two gluten free workshops will be organized. The firs one will be mentored by Natalija Strnad, who will prepare gluten free bread, the second one will be led by Maja Piskernik. She will prepare the whole healthy gluten free lunch. Around 30 celiac disease patients will gain practical new knowledge.

Fresh gluten free burgers will be offered to participants, which is a quite big challenge for the organizers.
