Monitoring campaign is over:
what’s next?

The monitoring campaign carried on in the 5 States participating to InAirQ project is over. 12 schools per State Partner have taken part to the campaign. Project partners are systematising and assessing the rough data.

What’s next, after the monitoring campaign?

The analysis of data will return a general framework of indoor air quality in the participating Regions, and highlight particularly critical situations.

Starting from these results, each state will plan and realise an Awareness Raising Campaign (ARC), whose main aim is to inform and raise awareness about the issue of indoor air quality, especially in the environments frequented by children. These actions have already started in 2017, and will go on until the end of InAirQ project (June 2019).

The ARC includes communication for informing and understanding, awareness and actions. Specifically:

  • Meetings with school pupils and their families, to sensitise them to the issue, so that they can take action to improve indoor air quality also at home
  • Meetings with school staff, to inform them about the importance of good indoor air quality, influence of bad air quality to human health and about the actions they may take to improve air quality at school
  • Dissemination of information materials about InAirQ project and dissemination of project newsletter
  • Use of national Facebook pages to inform followers about the project and about the theme of indoor air quality
  • Presentation of the project results at local conferences and events
  • Publication of articles.

Action Plans are big milestones of InAirQ project towards the improvement of indoor air quality in schools. The action plans will put together a series of actions (related both to school management and to possible structural changes in schools) aimed at improving indoor air quality in schools. These actions will be elaborated after a cross check of monitoring campaign results, aimed at highlighting the most critical situations and possible risk conditions, will be tailored to the specific local contexts and will be prioritised, from the most simple actions which do not require particular skills or obligations (e.g. opening the windows every hour), to the actions implying specific training or investments by the school managing authority (e.g. installing AC systems). The Action Plans will be shared among Project Partners, will be delivered to the involved schools and will be shared with local authorities in charge with school management.
