Monitoring campaign at the starting tapes

The monitoring of Indoor Air Quality in 12 selected schools of the 5 countries participating in InAirQ project is at the starting tapes. It is aimed at performing the “Detailed investigation” of the selected school buildings, in which indoor and outdoor environmental parameters will be investigated in the 2017-2018 heating season.

The Detailed Investigation will be carried on following the guidelines of the “Protocol for detailed investigation and intervention study”, edited by NPHI. The protocol gives rules and indications about:

  • how to perform the sampling/monitoring of chemical/physical parameters in one classroom per school building and at one outdoor location;
  • how to fill in the checklist and questionnaire aimed at collecting more precise information at the classroom scale and to confirm information on building characteristics collected during the preliminary investigation;
  • how the form master (or teachers) have to fill in the time-activity diary;
  • how to provide schoolchildren and their families indications to fill in a questionnaire on respiratory and allergic health of schoolchildren and home environment.

The protocol is also aimed at setting the scene for the “Intervention study” of one school building per country in the 5 participating countries, in which indoor and outdoor environmental parameters will be investigated twice: before and after an intervention aimed at improving indoor air quality (autumn 2018).

The Intervention study will include indications about:

  • how to perform the sampling/monitoring of chemical/physical parameters in one classroom per school building and at one outdoor location;
  • how to fill in a checklist to collect new  information at the classroom and building scales;
  • how the form master (or teachers) have to fill in the time-activity diary.
