Report from the Final Conference of the AMIIGA project
From October 23rd to 25th 2019, in Jaworzno, Poland, the AMIIGA Final Conference was held: " How to tackle groundwater contamination at the middle scale of functional urban areas?"
The Conference of AMIIGA - Integrated Approach to Management of Groundwater quality In functional urban Areas, realized within Interreg Central Europe Programme, presented the three-year project results and discussed groundwater management and protection.
Two days were dedicated to the technical meeting, to the monitoring group, to the steering committee and to the presentation of the results of the project. A third day was dedicated to the presentation of the pilot site of Jaworzno.
The international event was attended by: representatives of local, regional and national public authorities, institutions and authorities responsible for groundwater and surface water management and for environmental management and monitoring, entrepreneurs dealing with groundwater and directly related to problem of groundwater contamination, hydrogeologists, hydrologists, people of science and students. Grzegorz Gzyl (the Project Manager, Central Mining Institute, Poland), presented the methodology to tackle groundwater contamination in functional urban areas with the AMIIGA project approach.
All the associated partners attended the meeting: Croatian Waters (Croatia) , The City of Ljubljana (Slovenia) , Upper Silesia and Zagłębie Metropolis – Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia (Poland), Regional Authority of Liberec Region (Czech Republic) , The Hradec Králové Regional Authority (Czech Republic) , The Municipality of Ig (Slovenia) , Regional Council Stuttgart (Germany) , Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Katowice - RDOS (Poland) and University of Parma. Also the WP leader: Polytechnic University of Milan,for WP1, TUL for WP2, Stuttgart, for WP, Parma for the WPC and GIG per WP management.
The three days of meeting were attended by almost 200 people and the Steering Committee Meeting by 22 participants and the monitoring Group Meeting by 24 participants.
In addition, the AMIIGA partners shared the deliverables and the final results, from the point of view: technical, administrative, management, project, seeking funding, and so on, including the management plans which can then be disseminated in new FUA'S through communication kits translated each in the language of their country of origin. A video clip of the entire project with 7 partners interviews was showed to the participants. Also important were the solutions experimented in the seven functional urban areas of the project. An innovative, successful and environmentally friendly project.
