New Urban Garden in the Heart of Forli
31.3.2022
On Friday 25th of March, the Municipality of Forlì presented, the GIARDINO DEI MUSEI: a huge green area in the heart of the city according to the actions of the new SECAP, revised thanks to the ENES-CE Interreg project.
A previous project: SOS4LIFE intended to contribute to the implementation on a municipal scale of the European guidelines on soil protection and urban regeneration and in particular of the Community strategy of zero net soil consumption and made possible such a urban regeneration.
Forlì's objective for the project was to redevelop the area of the exsisting car park in Piazza Guido da Montefeltro perceptually and architecturally, so as to make it a valuable space, in harmony with the new museum centre.
It has been decided to transform the car park, in particular the open area, into a large urban garden.
The "Museums Garden" project recreates a public space with exclusive pedestrian and bicycle access for citizens, linking the museum with the surrounding areas. A longitudinal pedestrian and cycle path is flanked on the west side by a row of trees.
The first phase involved the demolition of the reinforced concrete structures of the uncovered part of the car park, and the "desealing" operation has increased the permeable surface from the current 6% to about 70%, and the green area by about 4,626 square metres, implementing the provision of public spaces in the historic centre.
An aesthetically pleasing appearance and a significant reduction in “heat island” phenomenon.
