Workshop in Prelog “Get engaged in creation of energy policy of the Town of Prelog”

On Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 in Prelog Entrepreneur Centre a workshop within ENES-CE project has been held, “Get engaged in creation of energy policy of the Town of Prelog”. The workshop has been mutually organised by Croatian project partners Medjimurje Energy Agency Ltd. (MENEA) and Town of Prelog in cooperation with Green Energy Cooperative and Križevci Laboratory of Innovations for Climate (KLIK).
The goal of the workshop was to better acquaint the citizens with the possibilities of active participation in planning process and improvement of energy development in Prelog. With this in mind, experts from Green Energy Cooperative presented to the participants two very interesting and relevant topics. Ms. Erica Svetec spoke about EU Green Deal, a document that was developed by European Commission as to engage energy transition and facilitate switching to nearly zero greenhouse gasses emission in all countries and regions of EU.
Ms. Maja Katić spoke of the new directions in energy policy development in Town of Prelog and how to engage citizens in this process. She mentioned that local energy communities have a great potential to be leaders in energy transition in their regions. Also, while planning local energy projects it is important to take into account all available resources, business models but also the demography of potentially involved citizens. Finally, some of the innovative financial models to finance citizens energy projects have been showed and best practice examples from Croatia and beyond have been listed.
One of such best practice examples from Croatia has been presented by Ms. Sanela Mikulčić from Križevni Innovation Laboratoty for Climate (KLIK). Through the presentation, gathered participants were shown energy illustration of the Town of Križevci as well as their projects and plans linked to this topic. Ms. Mikulčić also guided all through the process of the establishment of KLIK and described main goals and activities they are implementing.
Mr. Miroslav Hržić from the Town of Prelog presented project ENES-CE, while Mr. Niki Radiković from MENEA showed potential energy projects identified in newly developed SECAP through the cooperation with the citizens of the Town of Prelog.
Following the presentations, the participants started a discussion on the possibility of establishment of citizen energy grouping in Prelog, possibilities of financing relevant projects from energy sector and enhancement of communication between local authorities and wider public in Prelog.
