TESTING SCHOOL CHILDREN ON CELIAC DISEASE

Celiac Disease Society from Rijeka (Croatia) is implementing their pilot project “Testing school children on celiac disease” in cooperation with University hospital center Rijeka. In September they have started intensive communication with elementary schools in Primorje Gorski Kotar County for the purpose of testing 1500 children on celiac disease with rapid tests.

Because it’s well known that celiac disease is associated with a huge number of other autoimmune diseases, the main goal of this project is to prevent disease and its complications.

So far, Celiac Disease Society with their partner – University Hospital Center of Rijeka and Primorje Gorski Kotar County visited 30 schools, where they held lectures for parents and teachers. The implementation of testing also began, and to this moment, approximately 300 children were tested in a positive and friendly environment.
