Graffito on Martin Hoop shaft IVa
25.09.2018
A huge graffito was applied onto the former mining shaft Martin-Hoop shaft.
Through a joint initiative of the district of Zwickau, the site owning company MSB GmbH and the culture agency Kulturraum Vogtland-Zwickau, this facelifting of this industrial quarter has become real. In the course of the action, a jury consisting of regional actors and experts selected the winning design. The winner was Christoph Steyer alias “Flamat”, a Leipzig based artist, with its proposal of an atmospheric shaft landscape.
This design convinced by its clear expressiveness, its relation to the places history and its readability on far distances. The picture was transferred onto the wall by Tino Schneider, a fellow-artist of Flamat. He used 150 liter of wall paint and 250 spray cans to create that picture of ca. 30x16m.
Due to the trustful cooperation and great result, the idea is being discussed how further facades of the tower could be designed – thematically continuing with the story of industrial culture in the Zwickau region.
