Partner Meeting in Bautzen, Germany
The day before our Mid-Term conference the TRANS-BORDERS project group met in Bautzen for an additional meeting. We made the last arrangements for the conference and in addition, we took the opportunity to discuss the progress of work in our investigated regions and to clarify organizational issues.
To round off the day, our project partner from Bautzen organized a factory tour of the Canadian rail vehicle manufacturer Bombardier Transportation. The factory in Bautzen has developed into a competence centre for light rail vehicles and trams in the last few years. Rail vehicles for long-distance and local traffic have been built at this location since 1896. By 2021, around 25 regional trains for the Austrian Federal Railway were built in Bautzen for use in Tyrol with South Tyrol. The order is part of a major framework agreement for 300 trains dating from 2016, which ÖBB concluded with Bombardier.
