Double Wall Vessels in Ceramic 3D Printing

Summary

Double wall vessels have special insulating characteristics. Normally existing models are reproduced by means of elaborate conventional methods. In the meantime, 3D printing using liquid porcelain has become a meaningful alternative. In the workshop with Klaus Hackl and Petra Wieser, you will explore the creative potentials of digital design and production methods and create initial prototypes in porcelain.

The workshop will begin with three days of research, design development, and production of a digital 3D model using Rhino© at the Academy in Munich.

Date:  15 to 17 February 2021
Time:  10 am to 5 pm
Place:  Porzellanikon – Staatliches Museum für Porzellan in Selb,  Werner-Schürer-Platz 1, 95100 Selb

At Porzellanikon Selb, data adjustment, material experiments and production in ceramic 3D printing will be carried out.

Who can apply? 

Applicants must be residents in the programme region of INTERREG VB Central Europe (https://www.interreg-central.eu)

Prior Knowledge

Applicants should have the following basic knowledge of the 3D programme Rhinoceros: 

  • Drawing and connecting of lines, curves, surfaces, and solids
  • Creating of rotational solids, and Boolean operations
  • Modifying 3D objects
  • Real Time Rendering 

Ideally, applicants should already have the programme installed on their device. Previous experience with programmes/plug-ins for creating parametric shapes (e.g. Grasshopper) would be a benefit.

Publications and exhibitions

Submitted work, including research papers and images of artists and designers’ work may be presented in exhibitions, on posters, published online and in printed publications. Applicants are considered to have granted the right to publish their names, CVs, statements, submitted images and papers, and photographs and footage from events. This includes publishing in both digital and analogue form. 

In addition, publishing and reproduction rights for designs and objects produced though workshops supported by the CerDee project will be held by partners in the CerDee project. 

Participants remain responsible for the transport, care, presentation and insurance of their own work. CerDee is unable to arrange transportation or insurance and cannot be held responsible for any damage to work during events or transportation to the event.
