CIVINET Czech and Slovak Republic & ELTIS training on Urban Mobility Planning in Žilina
The two-day training programme (November 15, 2018 to November 16, 2018) was organised in Žilina as a mix of theoretical input, practical exercises and site visits to mobility solutions in Žilina and its surrounding area. It was targeted primarily at municipal policy makers and city office staff, especially for spatial planning, strategy and transport departments. The training familiarises municipal staff with current knowledge in urban mobility and to facilitates exchange of experience. Practical exercises put participants to the task to explore themselves policies, measures and their possible impacts that the interplay of urban mobility and land use planning holds for cities and their sub-urban areas. Site Visits highlighted the achievements of Žilina in the areas of local and regional public transport.
To bring the best practice to view, the training hosted a representative of Slovak municipality Malacky, the winner of the last year‘s Slovak national „Enviromesto" (Envirocity) award in the category of Urban mobility. The topic of the presentation was Transformation of transportation system of Malacky towards sustainable mobility, introducing the town’s new strategic transport plan and its implementation. Despite its small size and rural environment location, the town has introduced several successful projects and public campaigns in promoting and enabling cycling, public transport, pedestrianisation and intermodal travelling.
