URBAN INNO at WIRE 2017

WIRE2017 – Week of Innovative Regions in Europe is a conference that is supported by the European Commission DG Research & Innovation, Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation Programme. The main topic of this year´s conference fits to the overall topic of URBAN INNO as it is focusing on ‘Socially responsible, creative and trusted regional innovation in the digital era’.

The event will be held at Kulturpark in Košice, Slovakia, on June 28th - 30th. The ambition of the WIRE VIII conference is to enable a deeper understanding of the role and the needs for research and innovation focused on digitisation for a greater societal impact achievement and the digital responsible future for urban and rural development and related societal challenges, e.g. poverty and income inequalities, social inclusion, regional/local growth, data economy, and other. URBAN INNO will contribute to the conference’s ambition to get a better understanding on the importance of social innovation by presenting the participatory approaches for citizens’ involvement and how they will be used in the planned pilot projects. Project partners from TU Kosice as well from CyberForum will take the opportunity and shape an open space session with focus on URBAN INNO activities.

The timing of the conference is very relevant since the discussion about the next EU research and innovation programming period has recently started and the opportunity to help and support building of our responsible digital future has to be taken.

The conference will be accompanied by several side events (field visits, city walks) and open space presentations, networking and workshops, planned Hackathon on Digital Social Innovation and other.
