Workshop on data-mining

On 19 November 2019 a joint workshop by the City of Leipzig (Office for Geoinformation and Land Management and the Digital City Unit) and the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (local transport company) took place. The representatives of different city departments (e.g. spatial planning, infrastructure planning, traffic management etc.) and from the LVB developed use cases for the use of data for a more energy efficient public transport infrastructure.
The workshop was moderated by the Data Mining project Team of the local Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy (IMW).
The workshop was a first opportunity for the participants to discuss potentials and challenges for data-based planning. It was especially interesting to see different approaches to data-based planning that are already in use. The next step will be to discuss possibilities of joint data use. Those insights are also valuable for the concept of the Urban Data Platform which is currently drafted by the City of Leipzig and the Leipziger Gruppe (public utilities).
In total nine use cases were developed in the workshop. A selection will be made, and 3-4 use cases will be further detailed during the EfficienCE project.
