Coronavirus Outbreak: How the NPA Communities Cope with this Situation #1

08/04/2020

In March of 2020, the coronavirus outbreak hit Europe. Some people get really sick and need serious therapy, while some get the virus without any symptoms. Lots of shops, cafes and restaurants are closed. All mass events are now on hold and people must stay home. Some people lost their jobs. Everyday life right now is very confused and uncertain, and the virus affects everybody somehow. Here is the first part of the interview about the partner cities and their fight with the COVID-19.

1. How do you and your community bare the quarantines, social distancing and the overall life-style change because of the current pandemic outbreak?

Pro Loco Associations are composed by citizens and always side by side even in difficult situation. At the moment several initiatives raised like fundraising but the most typical is the distribution of meals, grocery shopping and masks to the population. For example the photos attached are of some volunteer.

2. Any tips on how to help the community from your home?

Except from asking people to stay home, not really.

1. How do you and your community bare the quarantines, social distancing and the overall life-style change because of the current pandemic outbreak?

The majority of people are respecting it more and more, due to the critical situation they see around them. There is a great reaction of local communities in terms of volunteering actions (distribution of meals, support to disadvantaged people, elderlies, ...) as well as donation and tangible help (private organisations buying health diseases to be offered to the health sector, ...).

2. Any tips on how to help the community from your home?

Anything we can do through the social networks (e.g. sharing ideas on things to do with children while at home, start blogs to keep company to people alone, ... ) or volunteer for the community by supporting local authorities in the emergency (e.g. municipalities can need volunteers for answering toll free numbers, etc.).

Stay safe!
