The key role of cities and the need to set-up efficient policy frameworks to boost circluar economy in Slovenia cities

Project partners, E-zavod and Maribor Water supply company, together with the EIT Climate KIC HUB Slovenija, organized a national round table on 17th of June, to discuss how to boost circular economy in Slovenia. More than 50 stakeholders deliberated about the role of the urban communities (cities, regions) in the transition to a circular economy, needed policies, tools and financial mechanisms. Partners of City Water Circles presented our project efforts related to  and, challenges and goals of the pilot investment.

Event hosted also representatives of EU EIT Climate KIC (Cliona Howie, EIT Climate-KIC Head of Circular Economy) and Annalisa Spalazzi, EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) Developer and important national stakeholders.

The participants agreed about following main conclusions: 
- now it is the time for ACTION, strategies and plans are not enough
- circular economy requires governance of networks
- we need »transition brokers« to mainstream the circular economy approaches.
