YOUMOBIL Final conference

YOUMOBIL project marks its end on March 17th, 2022, with a conference “Boosting youth rural mobility”, summing up project achievements and discussing about public transport in rural areas, with emphasis on young people.

The event was opened by Mayor Robby Risch of Weißenfels who thanked the YOUMOBIL project for the realization of a pilot action with young people to revitalize the city’s station building. He underlined the commitment of the municipality to prepare the investments for the building’s refurbishments in the near future. The second welcome address was given by State Secretary Bernd Schlömer, representing the Lead partner of YOUMOBIL.

During the event, participants learned about the achievements of YOUMOBIL (e.g. tool-box of innovative public transport approaches targeting young passengers, outcomes of pilot actions realized within YOUMOBIL, policy recommendations for youth-oriented revitalization of disused rail infrastructure) and received insights in the undertakings of other institutions such as the Pro Rail Alliance and the Warsaw Commuter Railway. Latest findings from research regarding shared mobility and autonomous public transport vehicles gave an inspiration about future developments to come. In a roundtable discussion, project partners and external actors discussed public transport pricing and the advantages and shortcomings of demand-oriented public transport services.

In addition to the official conference programme, in-person participants in Weißenfels benefitted from the opportunity of informal exchange during coffee and lunch breaks.
