The reactive barrier is located nearly the contaminated area of the so-called "old heap near the tracks" in the area of the Chemical Plant "Organika Azot" S.A. in Jaworzno. The system consist of three treatment zones different with type of sorbents: iron chips, peat, sand and biochar. The start-up of the installation working is dated on 16/05/2018 which was associated with the introduction of microbiological inocula into the barrier. During one year of operation (2 stages of operation) it was possible to evaluate the effectiveness of HCH treatment by various sorbents. The results of this pilot action and possible effects for the future groundwater management were actively discussed by RIG members.
In the following part of the meeting the action plan supporting the ongoing and possible activities for the management and protection of groundwater in the current state of law in functional urban area of Jaworzno, was presented by AMIIGA project partners. Action plan, monitoring aspects, groundwater protection was the basis for a lively discussion following the shown presentation. The main aspect of discussion was arrangement and configuration of activities supporting management, protection of groundwater against hazards from contaminated site. The conclusions from the issues discussed will be attached as a part of the Management Plan for Jaworzno FUA. The fruitful discussion concerning the protection of good status of groundwater body No 146, in line with Water Framework Directive and Polish Water Act, has been completed with affirmation of activities which are leading to make visible the problem of ‘hot spot’ in National Water Management Plan. First step as indication of significant pressure on water body No 146 was taken.
