Study trip #9: Ny På Landet (SE)

The last study trip took our colleagues from the West Bohemia University and the Burgenland District to Linköping in Sweden.

There they visited Ny På Landet, a project which is co founded with european funds and which supports the integration of young immigrants into Swedish society through nature and outdoor learning. Ny på landet (“Rural Newcomers”) is designed to help young immigrants aged 16-25 (in exceptional cases 12-25) to integrate into Swedish society through nature and outdoor learning.

The project aims to increase the understanding of the Swedish countryside and improve young immigrants’ awareness of and access to Swedish rural areas, it is led as well by a group of young team leaders who are migrants themselves. Ny på landet helps ease the journey into integration: it serves as a complement to other measures now in place in Sweden, purposively designed to help young immigrants integration into the Swedish society.

roll up

Since 2011 the project experienced an evolution, always around the vision of "Nature as the source of inspiration", with a rural civic group as experts for a wide range of activities: mushroom and berry picking, orienteering, skiing and long-distance skating on natural frozen lakes.

The objectives of Ny på landet are threefold:

  • to increase the understanding of the Swedish countryside and to improve young immigrants’ awareness of and access to, Swedish rural areas
  • to improve knowledge of nature and outdoor living
  • to help young immigrants integrate into Swedish society
