Sand being replaced by recycled glass as material in contruction
A lot of times, going circular means implementing small scale steps and changes to otherwise established process in order to make a positive impact on the environment and sustainability. The paradigm change doesn't always needs grand scale revolution or high-tech innovation. Just looking at a problem from outside the box is often enough and if done right, can show results in a short period of time.
In Canberra, Australia, they have been substituting river sand, a natural and thus limited resource with something called the "glass sand" produced from recycled materials. The beautifully simple approach is almost perfect. It keeps glass waste off the land-fills, it is cheaper then the natural material it replaces and has a extremely positive effect on promotion of Circular economy.
