Workshop on MaaS Mobility Packages in Graz

On 23rd of November 2021, an online workshop on Mobility Packages was held by the City of Graz and Rupprecht Consult. Mobility Packages are several mobility services that are bundled together to provide personalised options for journeys. Local stakeholders from Graz learnt about the good-practice examples of ‘SBB Green Class’ and ‘Leipzig MOVE+’, and discussed their next steps towards an action plan.

It started with an interactive presentation on the innovative mobility subscription model Green Class of the Swiss Federal Railways, which included an outline of the development of the Green Class subscription model – from a small pilot project to a product that was also of great importance for the CEO. The Swiss colleagues gave an exciting and detailed insight into the pioneering product development process and current operations and tools. In a final discussion round, the members of the Graz MaaS Steering group had the opportunity to exchange and learn on important lessons such as “keep it simple” and “keep an eye on the customer” or the beneficiary start-up mentality of the Swiss innovation team.

The second lecture was given by Patricia Hildebrandt from Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe, the local mobility service provider of the East German city. She presented the "Abo Flex" tariff model. The customer loyalty measure started a few years ago and is very successful in Leipzig. One lecture on the results of a scientific study on mobility packages in Leipzig (study by the Technical University of Dresden) was cancelled due to illness.

Based on the input from European good-practice examples, the participants of the workshop concluded findings for the city of Graz, and its respective region, on its way towards the implementation of Mobility as a Service. In a final workshop session, take home messages were collected and structured, conclusions were drawn, and next steps defined.

The team from Graz will therefore wait for the results of the survey on Mobility as a Service, which will be finalised in February 2022. A future direction for the MaaS process can then be determined based on these results.
