European Architecture Students Assembly
Rijeka 25.07.2018
Forget Heritage was presented at the European Architecture Students Assembly held in Rijeka between July and August; the so-called EASA is a platform for cultural and educational exchange, connecting Architecture students and professionals from all European countries, and in recent years from all over the world. The assembly is organized by students and provides a unique platform for education where the cultural experience is life-changing. EASA gives a chance to experience architecture in a way that universities are yet unable to provide – it brings students to a certain context, defined by the location and theme of the assembly, where they have to raise architectural questions themselves and investigate them through the eyes of all European cultures simultaneously.
During these 14 days, the multitude of EASAians forms a utopian community which maintains itself – nearly 500 students and professionals work, study, rest, cook, eat, clean and live together. There are participants, tutors, organizers, helpers and guests. The event focuses mostly on the workshops – taking up the majority of time; its program is essentially packed with lectures.
This year’s thematic was: RE:EASA (re-evaluate, re-consider, re-use, re-build, re-vive, re-gain…): therefor, it was only natural to present the Forget Heritage project and Rijeka’s re-use center– built on sustainability and re-usage of waste materials.
The intention is to REpurpose and REvive abandoned industrial and cultural spaces. The area around the river’s delta in the very centre of the city, with its abandoned complexes and factories was the location where most of the lectures, parties and communal life of RE:EASA took place.
