Innovative approaches to sustainable tourism management at the CEETO Conference on Protected Areas and Sustainable Tourism!

From October 22nd to 24th, in Opatija, Croatia, WWF Adria and partners within the CEETO project organise the conference on sustainable tourism management in Natura 2000 and protected areas. 

Interesting and inspirational presentations will be held by keynote speakers, experts in the field of nature protection and tourism. Igor Kreitmeyer, Assistant Minister for Nature Protection at the Croatian Ministry of Environment and Energy, and the representative of the Croatian Ministry of Tourism will discuss synergy between tourism development, the preservation of nature and the reduction of pressure on protected and Natura 2000 areas. The conference will be hosted by Deni Porej, Director of WWF Adria, and opened by the Prefect of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Croatia.

Carol Ritchie, Director of EUROPARC Federation, Olaf Ostermann, representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Paolo Angelini, Head of Delegation to the Alpine Convention and Coordinator for bilateral cooperation in the Carpathian and Balkan region, Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, will share their vast experience in the development of sustainable tourism in Natura 2000 and protected areas.

Best practices in management of tourism in protected areas, cooperation with stakeholders and development of local economies will be presented by representatives of Natura 2000 and protected areas managers, business sector as well as civil society. One such example is the Visitor center and the griffon vulture rehabilitation center Beli, which participants will visit during the conference. An interesting perspective on the impact of tourism on the landscape will be presented by an architectural duo, Saša Košuta and Idis Turato, at the very end of the conference, as an inspiration or further reflection for everyone who is in any way involved in the use of natural resources, spatial planning and development
