Jožef Stefan Institute

The Jožef Stefan Institute is the leading Slovenian scientific research institute, covering a broad spectrum of basic and applied research. The staff of more than 960 specializes in natural sciences, life sciences and engineering. 

The subjects concern production and control technologies, communication and computer technologies, knowledge technologies, biotechnologies, new materials, environmental technologies, nanotechnologies, and nuclear engineering. 

The mission of the Jožef Stefan Institute is the accumulation - and dissemination - of knowledge at the frontiers of natural science and technology to the benefit of society at large through the pursuit of education, learning, research, and development of high technology at the highest international levels of excellence.

Center for Technology Transfer and Innovation at the Jožef Stefan Institute (CTT) acts as a financially independent unit within the Jožef Stefan Institute. Our primary task is to enable and facilitate the transfer of technologies and innovations developed at the Jožef Stefan Institute, the most successful Slovenian research organization, into economy. Our priority activities are especially:

  • concluding license agreements and establishing spin-out companies;
  • connecting business and science with internationalization;
  • wareness raising and support in the field of intellectual property protection;
  • help and support with applying to national and EU calls.


Additionally, we take care of education and popularization of science amongst young population. For that purpose, we organize visits to the Jožef Stefan Institute and various lectures and seminars, while we are also the organizers of the annual International technology transfer conference.

Our main goal is increasing the flow of knowledge and technology into domestic and foreign economy and promotion of the Institute as a center of excellence for technological advancement.
