PIA group at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) highly engages in the fight against Covid-19

The PIA (Process Optimization – Information Management – Applications) group from Institute for Automation and Applied Informatics (IAI) at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) highly engages in the fight against Covid-19 and supports the regional 3Dprinting processes of currently hard-to-find, urgently needed protective equipment.

For this purpose, the head of the group, Steffen G. Scholz, initiated a prusa research project to cooperate with various partners in the region and jointly provide urgently needed equipment such as face shields. Since then, the team has been working on putting its entire Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) 3Dprinting infrastructure back into day and night operation to support any need for 3D printable supplies. The PIA group is currently the largest supplier to the Karlsruhe hub and also delivers major supplies to the hub in Ulm. In doing so, the group wants to support the Germany-wide Maker vs. Virus initiative, which brings together people and organisations that depend on protective equipment with "makers" who can produce it. The first deliveries were already made at the end of last week and the team is moving on very quickly and successfully!

This action proves the successful sharing of KIT's 3D printing infrastructure from the SYNERGY Infrastructure Sharing Tool: https://synpro.e-science.pl/infrastructures!

Thank you for doing a great job!
