KIT opens Research Factory for Artificial Intelligence in Suzhou

On 8th November 2018, the Global Advanced Manufacturing Institute (GAMI) – a collaboration between Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and China - celebrated its tenth anniversary with the opening of a new research centre for artificial intelligence (AI) in Suzhou. GAMI was founded by Gisela Lanza, China representative and professor at the wbk Institute of Production Science at KIT, as an institute that focuses on the research of global production structures and provides the foundation for cooperation between the KIT and the partners in the People’s Republic of China.

Since one of the major current challenges is the integration of artificial intelligence in industrial production and ever-greater digitalisation in the frame of Industry 4.0 as well as the resulting consequences for employees and manufacturing processes, GAMI has now opened the Artificial Intelligence Innovation Factory (AIIF). The Sino-German platform provides a research and training environment which equips researchers, students and industrial partners with skills required for AI technologies in production.
