Opening ceremony of smart fast charging stations in Maribor

The Municipality of Maribor purchased two electric busses and two smart fast charging stations.  Electric buses will operate on line 6 where 4 buses are transporting yearly around 400.000 passengers.  

The Municipality of Maribor has set up smart fast charging stations for electric buses at the bus station at the cable car Vzpenjača and at the Main Bus Station. These are the first fast charging stations in Slovenia. The value of the charging stations and construction works is 289,882.17 EUR, around 100,000 EUR is co-financed by the European project EfficienCE. The measurements were carried out by the University of Maribor, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture. The University of Maribor also prepared all technical data for the project, reviewed examples of good practices in Europe, advised on the choice of fast charging concept, developed a strategy for multi-purpose charging infrastructure, based on electrification of urban public passenger transport and prepared a methodology for selecting priority bus lines for electrification. The charging stations will charge in five minutes two 100% IVECO E-WAY electric buses, 12 meters long. The purchase of buses was co-financed by the Slovenian Environmental Public Fund (Eco Fund) in the amount of 600,000 EUR, the total value of the purchase is 1 million EUR. 

The electric buses and fast charging stations were opened by the Mayor of the Municipality of Maribor, Aleksander Saša Arsenovič, the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture, dr. Vesna Žegarac Leskovar and Jan Kimla, director of IVECO BUS for Central and Eastern Europe. An important step towards sustainable mobility in the field of public transport is made by this project in Maribor. 

At the same time the Municipality of Maribor also presented other projects of sustainable mobility in the city, such as the construction of sustainable infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists and public passenger transport. These include the project of the Drava - Lent embankment (implementation 2022 - 2023), the project of the 14 km long circular Drava promenade, the construction of the Lent-Tabor footbridge (2022 - 2023), the City Park promenade (2022), additional 100 km of cycle paths in various urban districts and local communities, the establishment of the Mbajk bike sharing system, and projects managed by the Municipality of Maribor together with the state (railway triangle and mobility hub, western bypass, extension of the Proletarian Brigades Road).
