In PROSPECT2030 we have been sharing experiences and transfering knowledge! This page is dedicated to the "replicant partners" workshops that we have organized between March and May 2021 in order to deepen mechanism and technicalities. The replicant parters are a group of interested partners that have signed up for this training course through an open call.

SCHEDULE:

1st workshop - Energy planning and energy transition | March 18th | European Center for Renewable Energy Güssing (EEE)

On the 4th of March 38 participants joined the workshop on Energy planning and energy transition, focusing on energy planning at regional and local level. Input was given on:

• the challenge of coherent energy planning on multi-governance and organisational level;
• scenarios for national energy systems towards decarbonisation in Italy;
• experiences and practices on SEAPs in Bavaria;
• energy and climate policy plans for 2050 at local level in Hungary;
• providing municipalities with supporting tools for achieving  goals on energy and climate policies.

The following discussion round focused on how to involve and motivate stakeholders to engage in energy transition planning at local as well as non-policy level.

2nd workshop - Energy efficiency in buildings | March 24th | Mazovia Energy Agency (MAE)

The second Replication Workshop organized by Mazovia Energy Agency focused on energy efficiency in buildings. Specific examples from Croatia, Poland, Hungary, Italy and Bosnia&Herzegovina gave an overview of countries' approaches to ex ante and ex post building assessment and deep retrofitting of public and private building stock. The discussion and feedback of participants and presenters led to one conclusion: more renovation of existing buildings has the potential to lead to significant energy savings - reducing the EU’s total energy consumption and lowering CO2 emissions.

3rd workshop - Financing energy efficiency | April 15th | Piemonte Region

Piemonte Region’s training workshop "Financing Enery Efficiency" was held on the 15th of April and open to external speakers (Fedarene on behalf of European City Facility project and Environment Park) and external stakeholders so to expand the horizon of the contributions. About 30 persons attended the meeting.

An overview of the overall context of the new ERDF programming period, the financial priorities and EU recommendations was given by our project partner AACM. Piemonte Region gave a synthetic introduction to Energy Performance Contracts application, starting from the definition and going through the standard procedures, the risk allocation, the administrative and financial concept, the mechanism of guaranteed savings and performance. The importance of the bundling scheme to have a larger investment was also introduced as well as some examples of EPC tender launched in Piemonte.

The great opportunity created by EUCF to support Local Administrations investments in energy efficiency was presented by FEDARENE. Three calls are still open for application in 2021. The EUCF objective is to provide technical, legal and financial expertise in order to boost the delivery of investment concepts and facilitate access to private & EU finance and advisory services.

During the final roundtable some interesting comments arose: the opportunity to combine different financial instruments (public + private) is mostly appreciated; the Covenant of Mayors will become soon more inclusive as there is the interest to increase the adhesions and the development of SECAPs; it is likely that the Recovery Funds will support a great number of investments to boost the energy renovation wave.

4th workshop - Sustainable transport | April 22nd | Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (EIHP)

On 22nd of April 2021 the Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar organized the Sustainable transport online replicant meeting jointly with the Split-Dalmatia County. The topic sustainable transport was covered from various directions by eight experts presenting six topics: national and regional aspects of the sustainable transport and concrete e-mobility actions done by EIHP, Decarbonization of transport in Split-Dalmatia County, e-mobility in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Sustainable mobility in BIH: SUMPs of Banja Luka, Gradiška and Bijeljina, Smart Mobility and Mobility Hubs – Good practice in the small city of Weiz and finally Sustainable Mobility Measures in Ljubljana Urban Region. 

5th workshop - Integrated energy systems and RES | April 30th | Energy Management Agency (APE FVG) and Autonomous Region FVG

On April 30^th the 5th Replicant Workshop was organized by APE FVG with the title “Integrated Energy Systems and RES”. Given the broad topic, after a survey with partners and prospected attendants, the webinar was split into two sections with respective focus on Energy Communities and RES-based DH networks.

In the first session, an initial contribution about the Italian regulatory framework from Polytechnic of Turin was integrated with two more presentations from two different realities operating in the Italian market of RECs. èNostra, a cooperative that operates in the establishment of energy communities and collectively owned RES plants, shared their experiences on citizens engagement and projects. The second contribution was done by the IoT technology provider Regalgrid, which combines smart metering and user interfaces to support the establishment and management of RECs.

In the latter session, Ambiente Italia introduced innovative ideas and best practices of RES-DH networks, supported by a European tour of examples over several countries from north to south. After that APE FVG explained the work that is being carried out within the ENTRAIN Interreg project, where a quality management standard is being imported from Austria to Italy, and reported how the new approach is being applied with analysis and pilot plants on the regional territory.

6th workshop - Energy grid and infrastructures | May 6th | University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal (HSMD)

On the 6th of May 2021 partners of the European project PROSPECT2030 met for an online workshop and discussed different business models for energy storage integration. The meeting was organised by the Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal as the participant of the Saxonian-Anhalt region.

As one speaker presented solution for integration renewable energies into the energy system, demand side management as well as energy hubs and energy buggering were mentioned. Another participant from the Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal informed the other subscribers about challenges and advantages of electric mobility for the grid integration. It was shown that there exists high potential of grid and ancillary services but therefore active power control is necessary. Nevertheless further (political) standards need to be implemented. The participant of Rome presented the possibility of using H2 as a key energy vector in integrated small-scale distributed generation. This means H2 can be a long-term perspective by being used locally for electric energy production but most likely to be fed into the pipeline to be distributed to different locations with no or less renewable energy production.

7th workshop - Stakeholders engagement and the role of consumers | May 18th | AACM Central Europe

On the last Replication Workshop held on 18th of May 2021, addressed the topic of stakeholders’ engagement and the role of consumers in energy efficiency. The participants received inspiring ideas and best practices by various experts. During the first session, two examples were presented about the stakeholders involving among others homeowners, financial institutions, local governments effective in the energy renovation of buildings. The first solution describing the results of the people-planet approach of the EUROPA project, was presented by Charlotte Eloise Stancioff and Luigia, Ekubirojs. The second example addressed the RenoHUb project’s market research were delivered by Dr. Fanni Sáfián, Hungarian Energy Efficiency Institute (MEHI). Her presentation was largely focused on the homeowners' fears, motivations, drivers and obstacles to energy renovations were explored.

The project used many innovative ways such as running an online blog and conducting focus groups research.

The second session of the Workshop analysed the stakeholders’ involvement in SEAPs and SECAPs. The first presentation in this session was held by Mr. Stefan Drexlmeier, Energiewende Oberland who has demonstrated results of the contribution of stakeholders in energy efficiency projects and its effectiveness. Another method for stakeholder engagement in SECAP development and implementation pursued by the PentaHelix project, was introduced by Ms. Ana Lovrak, UNIZAG FSB (University of Zagreb). The speakers received numerous questions from the audience and overall, this Replication Workshop it was regarded to be was one of the most successful events.
