The research group of the Division of Conservation Biology, Vegetation Ecology and Landscape Ecology (CVL) has long-time research experience in landscape and vegetation assessment, landscape functionality analysis, development of sustainability indicators, landscape monitoring by sustainability indicators and development of sustainability models by integration of participation processes. The project partner participated in several national, transnational and European research projects and regularly cooperates with partner in science, public institutions, NGOs and management authorities of protected areas. Main business of the CVL Division is higher education and research.

The University of Vienna - CVL takes part in all work packages and brings its extensive knowledge and skills regarding landscape functionality to the fore. They report on the assessment needs of Austria and the region of Lower Austria in relationship to existing national and regional policies and strategies, they undertake the transnational remote-sensing assessment with other project partners and report back on the results for the Austrian case study area of Eastern Waldviertel and Western Weinviertel. The knowledge of CVL is fundamental in developing the Green Infrastructure functionality assessment and provide expert guidance for the partners. They will test the approach in the case study area Eastern Waldviertel and Western Weinviertel in strong collaboration with the National Park Thayatal which is situated in this case study area. CVL is especially responsible for the management of Work Package 2, the compilation of the outputs and ensure the cooperation between the partners involved.
