Cultural heritage: In Monfort on warehouses and transport of salt

4.6.2018 in Porotorož/Piran, Slovenia

Monday 4th June 2018, as part of the European project YouInHerit (Interreg Central Europe), the Maritime Museum "Sergej Mašera" Piran presented the trilingual interpretation panels on the façade of the former salt warehouse Monfort in Portorož. The panels will inform and raise awareness of passersby about the history and importance of the warehouses as cultural heritage, and on the traditional transport of salt by sea from the saltpans to the warehouses.

The panels are part of a larger project - an innovative exhibition on salt warehouses, which is carried out by a group of young researchers and authors who, with the mentorship of dr. Flavio Bonin, of the Maritime Museum Piran, identify the material in the archives, elaborate it and present it for the first time to the public.

The interpretation panels also represent a significant contribution to the development of cultural tourism in the Municipality of Piran.
