On 15 December 2022, the monitoring committee agreed to co-finance 53 new transnational cooperation projects with a budget of nearly 100 million EUR from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The first call for project proposals of Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE 2021-27 was launched on 15 November 2021. Since it closed on 23 February 2022, the programme has checked and assessed 280 project proposals. This process finally resulted in the funding decision by the monitoring committee, which further increased the initial call budget by almost 30 million EUR to co-finance all excellent project proposals.

After call closure, we checked project proposals against formal and administrative requirements:
Altogether, 256 project proposals passed the formal checks.

The relevance assessment was done against two strategic criteria: Relevance and Partnership. To pass this step, proposals had to contribute to a programme specific objective, demonstrate a convincing intervention logic, and show added value of transnational cooperation. In addition, the competent and relevant partnership was a key aspect. 143 project proposals passed the relevance filter.
The full quality assessment was done in two categories: Strategic and Operational. In this decisive phase for the selection, we comprehensively analysed the entire application form. Each proposal was assessed by two experts. The assessors looked into the full set of strategic and operational criteria as outlined in the Terms of Reference of the first call. In this step, we also performed the State aid assessment.
On the basis of the full assessment, the funding decision was taken by our monitoring committee. 52 out of 280 project proposals were selected for funding. Following the selection, the programme informed all lead applicants about the results, including conditions that will have to be addressed before proposals can be contracted. Projects are currently expected to start with implementation between February and April 2023.
We will launch our second call for project proposals on 22 March 2023. Detailed information will become available in early 2023.
