Discussion with the regional policymakers in the Moravian-Silesian Region

Project partners from the Moravian-Silesian region started discussion with the policymakers, regarding focusing LUMAT project activities in the region.

Regional Development Agency in Ostrava and the IURS - Institute for Sustainable Development of Settlements organised first meeting with the policymakers on the regional level. On 08/02/2017 they met Jan Krkoška, Deputy Governor of the Region responsible for regional development, tourism,  European funds and operational programmes and also Martin Radvan, head of Regional Development and Tourism Department section of the Moravian-Silesian Regional Authority.

The aim of the meeting was to introduce LUMAT project, its activities and also future benefits of the project for the Moravian - Silesian Region in terms of urban planning, sustainable spatial development and also involving experts and wide public to decision processes.

The important part of this meeting was discussion upon first proposal of brownfield areas, planned for assessment within the Ostrava Function Urban Area Brownfields management plan. This plan, prepared in work package T.2 Urban/Peri-Urban Action Plans, Strategies and Tools, will include priority evaluation of underused and abandoned land, including recommendation for future use of land in context of carbon footprint. It will ensure interaction of project outputs with regional effort to improve air quality in Ostrava Function Urban Area. Representatives of the region proposed number of brownfield areas to be included to the project activities. This proposal will be also discussed with experts from the section of Zoning, Building Regulations of the Regional authority, with which are the project partners in regular contact. 

Discussion and involvement of regional policymakers will continue in forthcoming LUMAT project activities in year 2017.
