BMVI promotes new funding for rail freight transport

04.12.2020

The German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is launching new funding for rail freight transport. Automated and digitized maneuvering and braking processes are tested on the "Test field train formation system of the future" in Munich-North. The Ministry is supporting two innovative DB Cargo projects with 7 million euros which should allow Europe's largest rail freight operator to accelerate the digitization and automation of train formations in single wagon traffic. The funding is a measure from the federal program "Future Rail Freight Transport" of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, which was passed in May 2020. The program advances the digitization and automation of environmentally friendly freight transport by rail.
