Styrian Vulkanland is rich in Intangible Cultural Heritage as a result of the approach of understanding that traditions have to be lived and shaped in order to remain vibrant and fresh in people’s memories. And as people interact with the culture they live in, they influence the world around them. It is especially important for rural areas to consider the knowledge and skills that are handed down by tradition, to build on them and to make them relevant to the modern world. This is the way inhabitants create uniqueness. Styrian Vulkanland has a large and diverse range of traditional crafts. Experience built up over generations and the creativity of those involved ensures that crafting techniques are maintained and kept alive. People are committed to ensuring that traditional crafts are preserved and passed on. This will enable them to create a meaningful and vibrant culture in the region, and to encourage people to build their skills and fulfil their potential by joining in and getting involved. Intangible Cultural Heritage is also part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which puts forward an action plan with 17 Sustainable Development Goals that aim to address the three dimensions of sustainable development (social, environmental and economic). Culture of the Styrian Vulkanland with ancient cultural techniques that are still practised and passed on in this region, thanks to cooperating and networking was raised to another level of creating added value for future generations.
