Waste heat utilization in Ilmenau (Thuringia, Germany)

The city of Ilmenau plans the modernisation of the indoor swimming pool. To improve the energy efficiency the altogether 470 Megawatt hours waste heat of the neighbouring ice pavilion will be utilized. The waste heat occurs during the freezing process. The project is funded with 2,78 Mio EURO by the European Regional Development Fund. This includes also a new building isolation and other measures. Approximately 700 tons of CO2 will be saved. After the modernisation the total energy consumption will be reduced by 74 percentage compared with energy consumption of new buildings required by law.
