How to recover energy from steelworks to heat 180 users

The University of Udine is studying how to recover energy from steelworks to heat 180 users: the Municipality of Udine wishes to extend the district heating network in the southern part of the city, while the northern neighborood is already served by a thermo-generative 50 MW power station located in the city hospital.

The project is carried out by the "Working Group on heat recovery from steel plants" of the Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture of Udine and it aims to exploit the waste heat produced by the steelworks processing cycle, which is now unused, by recovering it within a district heating network. This will also create an “industrial  urban system”.
