GreenerSites partners  implemented 11 Pilot Actions to test more sustainable and novel technical solutions in their brownfields to improve the environmental performance of the involved FUAs.

Each Pilot Action investigated a specific critical aspect on brownfield management: brownfield revitalisation strategies and tools, novel monitoring systems, effective remediation methods. 

Pilot solutions are meant to be replicable in other contaminated sites and strategies and tool can be  adapted to different contexts.

2 transnational trainings, 9 local trainings and 8 study/site visits were  organised for public employees and stakeholders from the partners'insitutions to increase their capacity to effectively manage brownfield regeneration in a sustainable way.

9 Strategic Action Plans, one for each project functional urban area proposing valuable solutions to brownfield rehabilitation and their concrete sustainability.

Project partners used the results from the pilot actions to identify concrete actions to be implented after the project end to bring off effective management of brownfield sites in their FUAs.

GreenerSites partner developed a common geo-information tool to support institutions in planning and managing brownfield regeneration in a more effective way. The GreenerSites Tool is planned as a site information system for online collaboration of public authorities that are concerned with brownfield rehabilitation.

The Common transferability manuas for sustainable environmental brownfield management is a tool to support the  transfer of GreenerSites approach into other contexts.

The City of Venice elaborated studies aimed at linking remediation strategies to the need for future productive settlements in Porto Marghera, considering the environmental and the economic aspect.

Isw developed a brownfield revitalisation strategy for the urban sites located in Halle- Ammendorf, to improve the environmental management process and the marketability of the area.

The Municipality of Celje successfully tested three different methods for the remediation of contaminated soil in Old Cinkarna, to establish the most effective ones.

ARM SA developed a brownfield regeneration strategy based on environmental analyses and focused on consultations with stakeholders for the rehabilitation of the area also in socio-economic terms.

The Municipality of Solec Kujawski implemented a  monitoring system of soil and water in a former wood plant area to find a solution of neutralizing pollutants below groundwater level. 

The Veneto Region, supported by ARPAV Regional Environmental Agency, implemented a system to define the soil-gas reference level in the air, adopting the innovative "MLE” approach.

Together, the two partners monitored the environmental status of the area, analyzing its possible future use to safeguard the security of its inhabitants.

NASPA tested the stability of the soil of an environmental capping in the Montesyndial area of Porto Marghera, which is going to be redeveloped in a container terminal.

The City of Bydgoszcz investigated on the risks resulting from the contamination caused by the Zachem former chemical factory and drafted guidelines for future monitoring operations.

A web-gis tool with data on brownfields was created and tested in Magdeburg, then the installation package was delivered to other partners, to enable its implementation in all the project territories.
