Air Pollution  model

VŠB – TU Ostrava has prepared the ADMoSS modelling system for computing and optimized the modelling process for the TRITIA area. The modelling in such a scale and in such a detail has never been performed before. On this basis VŠB – TU Ostrava created AIR POLLUTION MODEL.

Within the AIR TRITIA project, 8 international spatial databases have been processed:

7. Socio-Economic
8. Epidemiological.

traffic model

University of Žilina has processed traffic model of whole solved area (territory of TRITIA). It is the largest and most comprehensive model of transport within the monitored territory that has been processed so far.

traffic pollution

University of Žilina has been measuring air pollution from road transport in the functional urban areas of the city of Žilina. The methodology of measurements has been established and technological background has been ensured.  At present, the measurements have been performed at 5 monitoring stations and the measured values are being evaluated.

ACCENDO has developed the socio-economic study and the epidemiological study of the TRITIA region.

Moss analysis

VŠB designed the network for moss sampling for the project needs, sampled mosses in the field (ca. 250 samples), than processed samples for the neutron activation analysis (NAA) and transported them to Joint Institute of Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia.

overview of EU projects

ACCENDO has developed an overview of air quality projects that include a large amount of data and information to be used in the frame of the AIR TRITIA project implementation.

overview of legislation and policy

ACCENDO has completed the overview of the legislation on air quality in which the legal regulations of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia and their link to EU policies and legislation are compared.

ACCENDO has completed the overview of studies on air pollution topic. Studies show that the air quality in the TRITIA region is one of the worst in the EU.

AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

Within the AIR TRITIA project, team led by ACCENDO research institute developed air quality management strategies both for the entire EGTC TRITIA region and in detail for functional urban areas (FUAs) of cities Ostrava, Opava, Rybnik, Opole and Žilina.

Healthy Air Info Day in Ostrava

The interactive show "Smokeman zasahuje" (Smokeman in action), designed for both children and adults, performed not only the suitable solid fuels for domestic boilers, but also a lot of interesting tasks and experiments. The participants were also tested on air pollution issues and geography of the TRITIA region. After the participants had completed the quiz they were given a little prize.

The AIR TRITIA project participated in the Earth Day in Opava. We would like to thank everyone for arranging such a great event. Sunny weather attracted a huge entry of nice people who could see and learn how to be helpful in order to improve the air quality. Everybody seemed to have a great time.

UNIFORM APPROACH TO THE AIR POLLUTION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR FUNCTIONAL URBAN AREAS IN TRITIA REGION / AIR TRITIA

Air quality in excessively polluted areas is still managed at local level. At the same time, air pollution is a specific issue with its cross-boundary overrun so that it cannot be effectively managed only at the national or regional level. AIR TRITIA aims to increase air quality management capacities of public sector bodies through the development of a unified spatial information database, introducing new management and pollution prediction tools and air quality strategies.




The common cooperation approach to air quality management at the level of functional urban areas will be based on detailed mathematical modelling and verification of various types of measurements with the use of supercomputers. The project will also define options for transmitting information within different territories, define measures for the reduction of emissions and elaborate legislative proposals for a more efficient implementation of an integrated strategy for air quality management at the territorial level.
